John Madden Dies, Star of NFL Game Madden

John Madden, a Hall of Fame coach who later became a commentator, has died at the age of 85, according to the NFL.
For thirty years, his upbeat voice and straightforward explanations enlivened the weekly broadcast of NFL games.
Madden died abruptly Tuesday morning, according to the NFL.
After leading the Oakland Raiders to a 103-32-7 record and a Super Bowl victory in 1976, Madden was named coach of the year.

After retiring from coaching at the age of 42, he became an even more powerful personality, entertaining millions of NFL fans.
He's also the creator of "Madden NFL Football," a critically praised sports video game. [em/rs]
Madden is most remembered for coaching the Oakland Raiders to their first Super Bowl victory in 1976, but he has also worked as a broadcaster for CBS Sports, Fox Sports, ABC Sports, and NBC Sports.
